So a few weeks ago a big box arrived at my door step. I was overtaken with excitement, it was the Alpaca fleeces and merino fleeces back from the mill! So just a quick note on the fiber. I sent some pretty high quality fleeces, so that helps with the overall quality of the final product. But if you remove that as a factor they came back beautifully, the Alpaca fleeces were lovely, completely free of vegetable matter, and wound into nice cakes of roving. Once the roving was unwound it bloomed into a fluffy thick roving. very lovely. I have spun some up, and the yarn is great. Dense but still lofty.
Onto the merino, I was most impressed with this fiber. I had it processed into combed Tops. when you start out with this greasy dense fleece, you hardly expect to receive back a huge fluffy bag of beautiful fiber. They literally just let the Top fall into a big bag, so when I opened it, it was light as air and just a large mound of fluff. I seriously considered crawling inside. After much oohing and ahhing my notes on the Merino are great! It came back 100% vegetable matter free and pure white, as well as the fluffiest thing I have ever seen! It will soon be beautiful lofty skeins of thick and thin. And I am really excited about buying fleeces from the same farm in the future.
Overall, I would highly recommend Zellinger Wool Co. They were excellent to deal with, always very helpful when I called with questions or concerns. They have great prices, and very reasonable wait times, as well as a wonderful product in return.
